Brother Laser Printers Fail to Print Multiple-Page Documents

Description of the Problem

Certain models of Brother laser printers sometimes fail to print multiple-page documents. The first page prints correctly, but the second and succeeding pages do not print. The printer's DATA LED remains lit. Pressing the button on the printer causes a second page to print. The top portion of this page looks correct, but the lower portion is cut off or garbled. The remaining pages do not print.

The problem is application-specific. Certain applications, such as Turbo Tax, may experience this issue, while other applications, such as Word and Excel, may not.

This issue has been documented on the Brother HL-1240 laser printer. It may also be exhibited on other models.

Solution

This is a known issue that Brother addresses here:
Brother Solutions Center: When printing from Turbo Tax for Windows ...

The issue is fixable with a driver patch. For more information, go to the link above. Or, download the patch and install it on the PC that is experiencing the issue. (Note: although Brother's directions for the patch say to reboot your computer after applying it, we have never found rebooting to be necessary.)
