Unable to Log In to the Web Management Interface of a Kyocera Network Scanner Due to a Forgotten Password

Description of the Problem

You have a Kyocera network scanner and are unable to log in to the web management interface. You can reach the home page and can view certain settings, but if you try to save your changes or access certain pages, you are presented a login screen. You cannot log in because you don't know the password. Someone has set a password, but you either don't know who did it, have no way to reach them, or they have forgotten it.

Solution

You need to initialize the scanner NIC from maintenance mode. This will reset the scanner to factory defaults and will erase the stored username and password.

To initialize the scanner NIC, you must be in front of the copier. Go to the normal copying status page; i.e. the page where you would go to begin making copies. Enter 10871087 on the keypad to enter maintenance mode. The LCD screen should confirm that you have entered maintenance mode. Chose option 504 to initialize the scanner NIC and press the Start button. Note: this will erase ALL scanner-related settings, including the IP address, address book, etc. If you want to back out of maintenance mode without making any changes, choose option 001.

After the NIC has been initialized, wait a few more seconds, then enter the system menu (the * button on many models) and choose "Scanner Default". Use code 6482. Now you should be able to view and edit the scanner's current IP address (DHCP is turned on by factory default). The scanner web interface on that IP address is now unlocked.

Once you are in the scanner web interface, you can create a password for it, if you wish. Go to "System Basic Setting" and enter the desired password in the Administrator section at the bottom of the page.

The above procedure works for Kyocera network scanners models CS-2550, KM-3035, KM-4035, KM-5035, and others.
